Basement Lighting Ideas | Ask The Expert

Pete Westera is the owner of Basement Systems USA and one of the leading authorities on basement waterproofing, crawl space, and foundation repair in the Baltimore, MD area, also serving Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE

In this episode of Ask The Expert, Pete discusses options for basement lighting. The typical basement is dark by nature, since the typical basement window doesn't provide much in terms of natural light.

For that reason, any color in the basement appears at least two tones darker and without proper lighting, the entire space might look gloomy and uninviting. Pete recommends using light colors on the walls to make the basement feel a little brighter. Then a combination of fluorescent light fixtures and canned lights can be used to provide as much or as little light as needed.

Can lights, used as task lighting or to highlight an area or specific feature -- like a display case or wall art -- creates a cozy, warm atmosphere. The fluorescent fixtures will provide plenty of light when more is needed.
